Chet, who hired Courteny just for her looks. I’m not sure he would have hired Cooper (not that Cooper isn’t good-looking, but if I remember correctly he only hired good-looking girls), so it must have been a former assistant manager who hired Cooper.
Stuart wouldn’t have put him in the non-conformist file because there’s nothing physically wrong with him (no dreadlock, no unnatural hair color, no tattoos, no piercings).
I imagine if Marla had spoken up in panel 3, Stuart would next have said some backhanded compliment about Val.
Stuart thinks that a non conformist won’t obey him like a good little retail drone.
