I work for a speech therapy office, which is under healthcare. Potential new clients always ask if we discount for out-of-pocket patients. We don’t.

Medical insurance dictates an “allowable” amount and then, IF they cover, pays a percentage of that amount. In the end, the office could make less than 85% of our charged amount. Sometimes there’s a copay and that could be as much as 40% of the “allowable” amount. Some of those clients complain to me about it, expecting us to waive it. So those clients would be okay with us being paid around 50% of our original charge. Once, I had to scan/email a copy of the provider report to show the client that her insurance told me to bill her that amount because she couldn’t be bothered to look up her member report online. Oh the joys of medical insurance billing.
