    haha, I read a bunch of responses to situations like this on Ask a Manager and they all said “no, do not do this. The outcome will be bad for you, whichever way the wind breaks”

      Yeah, this rarely works out for the employee. It’s *possible* it was a valid tactic way back in the day (or in some specific edge cases), but all it does these days is paint a target on your back.
      Even if your current company gives you a raise, they know you could be lured away and so now think of you as even more expendable than before. Your name will be first in line when it comes time for layoffs, both because you make more money, but also because they already think of you as a flight risk.
