    While the sub-prime mortgage crisis was brewing all through 2007 and 2008, it wasn’t until September 2008 (barely two months before this strip) that the Lehman Brothers declared bankruptcy, which was one of the defining”oh shit” moments of the Great Recession. The economy was terrible, Stuart, and people were scared, of course they were not out shopping at a department store.
