Normal work hours don’t exist in retail. You work when you have to work. Doesn’t matter if it’s day or night, nor wether it’s a weekend or not.

That sounds like you’re in danger of being called to come into work *while* you’re working there already.

Yep, it happens. You go to end your shift and there’s a text on your phone in the locker telling you you’re working the late shift today.

God, trying to date while working retail was *horrible*.

I had a retail job once that was truly an exception to the norm. I actually had an 8 am to 1 pm schedule M-F. I was hired specifically for that schedule and it didn’t change until I went full time. Then it was 8-4 M-F.

For background, my wife got a $20/hr job right before COVID. We’d never made that much at the same time, and we had 3 kids. So I had home duty. Cut to last year —
I had a conversation with a hiring manager once about how there are never any employees available, and joked that Corporate was playing stock market roulette. She claimed the problem was lazy people who didn’t want to work. So I told her I wanted to work, but I had 3 young kids in school and could only do 9-2 on weekdays.
    So apparently I’m lazy.
