Not exactly free since we pay through our tax dollars (and parking at hospitals is not free as it is in the states) but no out of pocket which is a blessing. 10 years ago when my husband had a stroke he was in the hospital for a week. Then we had a young lady make several visits to our apartment to give us information about strokes and we didn’t have to pay a penny for any of this.
And the average US taxpayer actually pays *more* tax dollars for publicly-funded health care than the average Canadian taxpayer does. But in Canada it covers everybody and (nearly) everything.
(The US system is very inefficient because essentially nobody in it — nobody with any clout, anyway — has much incentive to hold down costs.)
this didn’t used to be true, you used to have to PAY for Doctor’s notes, but if you found the right clinic you could probably find a cool doctor that would give you a form to take to your employer that would make THEM pay for it, because YOU, the one who is sick, should not be punished for trying to get better and keep people from getting sick.
