I truly appreciate you giving us this shortcut. I thought I was very math saavy but I had not made this connection. But today one problem with your trick occurred to me. Suppose the dollar amount is over $100? Obviously 20% of $300 is not the same as 300% of $20.
It’s also the same as 50% of 20, which is easier.
