    Honestly? It could be a good move to try to turn this guy against Jerry, so long as it’s finessed properly. “Jerry is a misogynistic sleazeball” won’t work, since Brent might blab and Jerry might fire Marla for that (even though it’s true). “Jerry sees me managing a store as a threat to his job security because I’d outshine every other store in the district, which would reflect poorly on him.” is better. Any mind-games to get Brent to distrust Jerry would benefit Brent yet give Jerry fits, at least until Brent finds a store director job with a better company. Sounds like a winning scenario to me. (delay since I was busy, then sick, then busy, then… IDK, I’m back!)

      I’d probably go with something along the lines of “They don’t believe in internal promotions at this company. They say they do, but it never happens, they only hire from the outside. Ask Stuart how long he’s been bucking for District Manger, you’ll see. Hope you like being a manager, because around here, that’s as far as you’re going.”
      See how long Brent sticks around before ditching the job for something with upward mobility.
