Courtney baffles me in how she is still employed. Considering how big a deal it was when Marla borrowed Cooper’s cellphone when they got the new registers and phonelines installed, how would something like this not get her written up and have her hours reduced, or even put on suspension (or just flat out fired)?

I mean, I get that they’re paying minimum wage, but surely in 2008 there would’ve been plenty of people willing to at least put in the minimum requirement that could replace her

The comic never seems to show Stuart catching her doing it, the way he “caught” Marla. Plus, I can’t help but wonder if Stu ignores her transgressions because he has other staff he can obsessively harass throughout the day, when he’s not hiding in the back with “paperwork.”

I read an article once about why Batman “can’t” kill Joker. All his enemies are archetypes of real-life criminals, and Joker is the anarchist terrorist. If he killed Joker, they would have to invent a new character to take that spot and have the same problem. Courtney is the archetype of miserable useless peon. Marla has to deal with her because she has no authority. The only way to get rid of her is to give Marla new and different problems to solve, which means Marla’s story needs to progress past her current point.

That vague enough for you spoiler-complainers?
