Cooper’s still on part-time status (meaning less than 40 hours per week), isn’t he? That means no vacation pay.

Across the pond back in civilisation, part time employees accrue paid holiday on a pro-rata basis.

I thought he at least got a week’s paid vacation even if usually he doesn’t go anywhere because he can’t afford to.

He’s an hourly part time employee. He has no benefits.

When I worked for a UK airline, part-timers got the same number of vacation days as full-timers but were only paid for the number of hours that were their normal work week. I.E. if a part-timer normally had a 20 hour work week they would still get 10 vacation days to start with but only get 40 hours of vacation pay instead of 80 hours of vacation pay the full timers would get.
