I actually got a verbal warning one time for responding to one of those types of customers.

“Oh, the weather is beautiful. It’s not too hot, there’s a nice breeze, and-”

“And what makes you think I give a shit? I’m in here. Working. For the next 8 hours. By the time I get out of work, it’s supposed to rain.”

I’ll admit, it was nice giving back a little of what we all get every day. Also worth the warning, in my opinion. Had a decent manager who understood what the floor staff had to deal with for the first 7 years. The last 2-and-3/4 had a female version of Jerry. If you were male, you were always wrong, no matter what. If you weren’t in her clique, you were always wrong and you got dumped on. I got canned when I no-call-no-showed Black Thanksgiving and Black Friday, then didn’t bother lying on Monday why I didn’t show up.
