I remember going in to a FYE to buy a CD for my wife in about 2012 or so. Just a single, silly little CD. The poor girl behind the counter had ๐๐๐ฃ๐ different upsells that she had to trot out before I could pay for my disc and get out. Two for one, Rewards Card, email notifications, and a couple of others. It was annoying, but my heart went out to her.
In this situation I’d just take the heat for not doing the upselling because the guy is obviously not going to be interested. If the manager wants to take the brunt of the customer’s wrath by forcing me then that’s on him.
I remember years and years ago when Walden Books was still around always being asked if I wanted to join their rewards club every time. I was already a member. I later found out that if the cashiers couldn’t get someone to sign up, it counted against them. EVEN IF the person they asked was already a member. Doesn’t get much screwier than that.
