In my pre-retail days I once took a video game back to the Kmart to exchange it… the cartridge I had bought wouldnt work. The lady at the return counter was prepared for a fight because she probably thought I wanted to get my money back. She calmed right down when I told her all I wanted to do was to exchange it for a good copy. She was never rude to anything… Just prepared for an argument.
I had a similar situation kind of. My manager was standing by my register when someone came to return something. The manager said yes to a refund but the customer STILL argued her case. She just couldn’t take YES for an answer.
“We regret your expectation will not be fulfilled. Here’s a dime, call someone who cares.”
Dime? Phone call? I don’t get the connection. 😉
Pay Phones were 10 cents a long time ago. They went up to 25 cents in 1984
