    And I’ve seen articles from the early 1960s claiming that self-driving cars would be a reality by the 1970s.

    If that had been me in that Kevin Smith skit, I would have given Randal a bag fat “No” about flying cars from the get-go. It’s just a bad idea. First off, think about the antics people get up to daily just with vehicles that are constrained to two dimensional movement. Now imagine the damage possible with omnidirectional craft. Yeah, thanks but no thanks. Plus, unless the “flying car” is basically a glorified personal airplane, the technology it has to incorporate — an anti-gravity or maglev system, plus the power source necessary to make it work — could be put to so much better uses elsewhere.
