I am pretty sure Le’ Roy meant it tongue in cheek. But YES there were accusations of racism by some in the black community because menthols were favored by the African Americans and thus the policy was deemed “racist” because a ban would disproportionately affect blacks.

They banned them in Massachusetts last year. I used to smoke menthol but I don’t even like them anymore so I didn’t mind too much.
