It’s more the fact that men often feel the obligation to do something special for Valentine’s Day and often put a lot of time and effort into it so being told that they don’t need to do anything could be a gift in and of itself.
Under similar thought process, this past year, my Christmas gift to my parents was just me getting a physical exam from the doctor.
