    And Lana did move on to better employment. We just didn’t see it. I think she only has one or two more appearances in the strip after this before disappearing without a mention, which means she got a better job.

      While Amber stayed until the end. But it was mentioned a few times that she was going to school as well. Maybe she stayed because Grumbels, for all its faults, was willing to work with her class schedule.

      It’s a more realistic scenario than it appears on the surface. I think back over the years to the number of people at my workplaces whose desks were one day simply unoccupied, then later held by others. Goodbyes must have been said, maybe there was a cake and congratulations in their department or circle, but for me, now they’re just somebody that I used to know.

    I think who stayed and who left had more to do with what material Norm could come up with. Lana is a bit of a “one-gag” character with her massive optimism. Amber is more versatile.
