I think he’d rather use that money to stay alive, given how he’s living in a seedy part of town, and had trouble paying for a medical procedure a while back.
Plus, a portable would still need power, and in ’08, the battery would only last you MAYBE four hours.
To be fair, he was uninsured and that procedure was $20,000 The US economy sucks.
Ah, the joy of a laptop with 8 hours of battery. No power? No problem, I’ll just work on my writing. Or run the battery down in 3 hours while gaming.
