    Thank heaven the customer, er, guest wasn’t shopping for those nifty protective shoes one puts on over the good shoes to protect said good shoes from rain, snow, or slush! For the unitiated, those used to be called rubbers.

    Elastics are also used by people sewing their own clothing. Just to make things even MORE confusing!

    I’ve heard them called elastics here in Canada too.

    Canadian here – I’ve called them elastics my whole life, though “elastic band” and “rubber band” are sometimes used to a lesser extent here.

    I’ve heard hair ties be referred to as elastics, too.
