I would like it on the record Norm is unfortunately not exaggerating with this level of indifference shown by Stuart here: some managers have such a massive disconnect from reality that it’s staggering.

Agreed, it’s all about the bottom line ($$), the grunts don’t matter unfortunately.

If anything, several stores would have outright fired Cooper for “job abandonment”

I nearly passed out from heat exhaustion one place I worked. Busted AC in the middle of a heatwave in southern summer. Complained to the manager I felt dizzy and nauseated. He immediately takes me somewhere cool and gives me a sports drink, tells me to sit and rest until I can stand without feeling bad. Assistant manager sees me trying to recover and yells at me for not working. I try to defend myself, thankfully manager snaps at him that I’m about to pass out and to get off my case. I miss that manager

Yes, sometimes managers and assistant managers aren’t all arses. You were lucky to have a good manager, and I hope the assistant manager learned something. But I doubt s/he did.

Ugh. I’ve had heat exhaustion, it’s awful. I’m glad you had a good manager who helped you.

I read old strips like that and become amazed that the finale didn’t have Marla taking a swing at Stuart instead of just tossing her ID tag* at him like a piece of trash.

If you think Zucchini-head’s behavior was bad here, imagine if Norm had done some dramatic mall shooting arc and how Stuart would have (mis)behaved during *that*.

*Or was it a sticker at that point?

Whole Foods has moved to stickers. When I worked there, they had actual buttons.

Literally knew a friend of mine, in the early days of covid, caught it, and was told to COME IN ANYWAY because no one else knew how to do her job.

And they wonder how it infected half the store.
