God, I want to punch Jerry’s face in. He’s such a horrible misogynist!

I don’t want to punch him.

      …

I want to knock his head off with a clue-by-four.

The anger he’s causing right now isn’t due to his sexual politics. It’s because he’s a monstrous bureaucrat, a Stuart times 10, the kind of authority figure who would demand you clock out if the fire alarms were sounding off (along with the distant sound of gunfire and police sirens).

Actually had a teacher once who made us stay through an alarm, saying it was just a drill; we weren’t even doing anything real important like an exam or anything. Needless to say, she got in trouble after some firefighters saw us through a window, and we had a series of substitutes for awhile. I think she actually fought getting fired, the basis of her argument being that there’d been no fire drill on the day’s schedule.

Wow, your teacher is an asshole. And if the firefighters were there, wouldn’t there be an ACTUAL fire going on? I’m confused by that teacher’s logic.

Not necessarily, the alarm could have been tripped accidentally or on purpose, but since the fire department probably wouldn’t know that without showing up, they do just in case there actually *is* a fire. The teacher is still an asshole, though. Just like the guy that refused to leave our store before being checked out when that fire alarm went off unexpectedly, even though the volatile chemicals in a couple of aisles could have taken out an area the size of a city block.

I grew up in a very tiny town, and school fire drills involved the fire department sometimes. Students practiced getting out quickly, and the firefighters practiced sweeping the entire school

A few years ago, a pipe burst and some steam from it tripped one of the fire alarms. No one was hurt and it wasn’t a super big emergency (we were allowed to go back to class almost immediately after), but the firefighters still showed up and we had to wait outside for some time while they made sure nothing huge was happening.

I should probably add this was a school setting. The alarm went off while we were all in class.

I really wish at the end he was given an even more harsher punishment like his ex-wife finding a way to make him poor.

I hate to disagree with Marla, but putting down in writing that she was given an oral warning isn’t “superfluous”, at least not to him and the other cronies. He has a paper trail that he can reference in the future as her “warnings” stack up.

Why call it an oral warning then? Probably because, officially, an oral warning doesn’t carry as severe consequences as a straight write-up. Is it still bullshit? Oh, absolutely, this does nothing for improving morale or the state of the store, but as Marla said earlier in the week, Jerry’s dropping all pretense and proving that he doesn’t give a shit about the store, he just wants to be a petty tyrant

Superfluous – unnecessary, especially through being more than enough
