    My Dad once asked that when he’d phone called the store. He realized what he did, and tried to cover by saying he was making sure he hadn’t dialed a wrong number.

    “Do you work here?”
    A customer asked me this a few years back. I was very clearly wearing the company apron with my name printed on it and the “Years Service” patch on the front.
    I said very clearly, “No, I don’t.”
    “Oh, okay,” he said, wandering off to find another employee who was wearing the same thing that I was. I don’t think it actually occurred to him that I worked there at all, but I wasn’t going to articulately verify my employment with him when my work uniform was all the proof that was needed.
