I haven’t either. My family owned a motel, and you can’t take a vacation during the regular season, and in the off season the kids are in school. (and yeah, there’s a couple all-week school vacations, but everyone else is travelling then, and my parents didn’t want to deal with it.)

I haven’t been, either. Never had the money to do it. Also, like Cooper, up until recently (about 10 years ago) the only cars in the house wouldn’t have been trusted to make a journey halfway across the state, let alone to a different one. Then it just became money related. Dad would get one vacation a year, spend a week during summer where we’d do something simple, but never expensive.

So, I’ve never been to Disney World, nor to an actual amusement park. And now, well, now I’m too old for such things. At least, I feel too old for those things.

We always went to Cedar Point once during the summer when my dad was on vacation but usually didn’t actually go anywhere else. One year though was different. We went to Cedar Point as usual but the other 4 days we went to inexpensive places like the beach and Irish Hills.

Val’s really showing her entitled, elitist side.

I beg to differ. Nothing she has said or done has shown entitlement or a belief of being elite. She is, at worst, guilty of ignorance of how a large percentage of families live. If anything, she is the *reverse* of your claim, as she thinks EVERYONE is “entitled” to a Disney vacation.

We never went on vacations. We went to Topsail Beach, NC when I was 8 (from Pittsburgh) and my dad backed out because of work, so it was just mom, sis and me. Mom told him he better show up at one time during the trip or not come home. It also didn’t help that I was just getting over a terrible bout of pneumonia and had to be hospitalized.

Dad always said work came first in his mind, and has stopped short of apologizing for being an absentee father because he was always working.

Interestingly enough, I now live 2 hours from Topsail where my wife and I teach.

And as an addendum to my comment, we were lucky to be able to drive from PA to NC in the piece of shit Blazer we had. We had piece of shit cars growing up, and when Dad got a job that gave him a company car, he was thrilled to not be spending loads of time under the hood. Dad could fix them, but maybe that’s another reason we didn’t venture more than 3 hours from Pittsburgh.

I’ve been to Disneyland and Disneyworld, but I have to say that when I went it was very different. My dad and I went again in 2018 and it was miserable. Way too many people, too long of lineups, and way too expensive if you wanted to expedite the process. The previous visits were in the 90s, so there were still large crowds, but you could still usually ride every ride at least 3 times in one day.

Maybe it wasn’t so bad in 2013 buuuuuut I dunno. There are far better places you can go for a vacation, heck there’s better theme parks.
