But they expect you to know every detail of every single item the store sells.
I don’t remember if it was a comment on Retail at one time but someone who worked in a bookstore said customers would ask which book was better than the others, which was say the best book on gardening as though the employee had read every single book on the shelves!
when I worked in a sporting goods store, I only worked behind a counter (for selling firearms) and so I didn’t have to worry about getting stopped by customers like this. Every so often someone might wander up to the counter and ask questions about products like clothing or footwear and usually I would look things up in our computer to give some quick info, but usually I would get on my radio and just say “hey, I’ve got a customer here at the gun counter that needs some help with x. Is there anyone available to come and help them?” and then we’d either shoot the shit if it was slow, or I’d tell them “stand over there and someone will be by soon to help you” and I’d go back to helping other customers.
I never got reprimanded for that, in fact I usually got pointed out as someone with above average customer service. Then again, I freely admit that a lot of the horror stories shown in this strip I never witnessed or had happen to me, so I guess I just lucked out with my retail experiences.
