Apparently dungarees is another term for overalls. Also; in a Ranger’s hat and shovel, and a pair of dungarees, you can find him in the forest, always sniffing of the trees.
Originally “dungaree” was a name for a type of cotton cloth, much used for heavy work clothes like overalls and jeans. By extension it came to refer to the clothes as well, especially (but not exclusively) overalls.
I had never heard of Dungarees either and I’m in my forties.
Dungarees and jeans are very much NOT the same thing.
I’ve only heard Dungarees used as a brand name of jeans, like Levi’s.
