As a librarian, don’t do this. Libraries want to make sure the books are where they belong, not to mention many libraries gather usage stats from books that have been taken from shelves. By re-shelving the books you’re taking away a data point they can use to justify funding.

I never worked retail and I found myself reshelving books in a library. I just couldn’t stand to look at the mess anymore.

I finally broke the habit of facing shelves in grocery stores. Wasn’t easy.
