Yeah the work might not change much but the prestige from showing you can handle things on your own is worth its weight in gold when it comes time for them to decide on who’s worth relying on which leads to more hours and promotions.
One of the many reasons I like this strip is that, despite how simple (relatively) the artwork is, Norm really nails facial expressions and body language. Case in point: I know EXACTLY how Donnie feels in the third panel. The left-hand fingers are looser, the right arm is hanging, the eyeball is glaring. Very slight changes but it really communicates, and Norm does this consistently.
