I’d forgotten about this particular strip, and yeah, that hits hard. I used to love going into bookstores, looking over the covers, reading the synopsis and (in some rare cases) a page or three out of the occasional book. Pretty much couldn’t get out of a bookstore without spending at least $40.
Sure, e-books are more convenient, but I miss the experience of actually browsing the books.
Marla needs to join the 21st century. Between the countless other places that carry books, usually CHEAPER then bookstores plus online sources, bookstores are 100% WORTHLESS in this day and age.
BULLS**T! Obviously you don’t read books. Bookstores are great. Much, much better than buying some crap online. Also, other places that carry books, like Wal-Mart, only have a few of the top selling books.
I use an online site called fantastic fiction dot com. It has books listed by author and when you click on the author’s page it has all their books grouped by series and date. You click on the book and it tells what it’s about. You can have notifications sent to you when one of your favorite authors puts out a new book.
Ding. Bookstores were built for browsing. Swiping isn’t the same.
(Probably explains why indie bookstores made a comeback last decade)
Absolutely this. I used to spend whole afternoons at the local Borders. usually came back with 50 dollars or more in books and dvds too.

You know what’s great for browsing? Libraries…
Unfortunately, our local one has been closed since The Covid hit.

I both love and hate going to bookstores. I love it because I see so many wonderful books. I hate it because I can’t afford them all.
Amen to that.
EXACTLY!
