I once drove a 62 mile round trip commute during a blizzard. Sad thing is, I had already been informed months earlier that the next week I was going to be laid off. The Me of 10 or so years ago was so SO stupid! But life has a way of evening out. I currently am the most respected member of 2nd shift by my employer and have the authority to shut down operations and send home the employees WITH PAY to make sure they are safe during bad winter weather. I’ve only used that authorization twice in 5 years (I don’t abuse it) but it’s very conforting to know that it is there when needed.
It’s not only retail that never closes. I worked for a small company that expected us in no mattervwhat the weather. We were once expecting a 4 or 5 category hurricane to land in kste morning, early afternoon. I drove to work to get some things soi could workathome, my,manager wanted to me to stsyuntil it actually hit because i”would have plenty of time to get home before it gets bad.” I left. We then lost power for a week. Because part of my job was phone support for our product, my department had to come in and bring our own flashlights (our part of the building had no windows ). We had 1 phone that had direct dial because it was hooked up to the fax machine. It only took the phone company a few minutes to switch it to our help line number. So while everyone in the rest of the company stayed home, we had to go to work with our flashlights for a week.
I had to work through an ice storm once. They paid us in cupcakes.
Glad you didn’t have to fight for this Cooper.
