Anyone who says “they’re not here to make friends” is a jerk. Like, of course not, no one is. We’re here to make a living. But if you feel the need to say “I’m not here to make friends” out loud, you are not a good person to hang out with.
I have subordinates now. I *need* them. I need them to be attentive to problems, and bring them to my attention, so that I can deal with them. I do my best to thank them for their hard work every day.
