The same is true when you are pushing a trolley or carrying large boxes. People expect you to get out of their way, to stop to answer their questions or point out directions. And it seems to be worst when carrying unwieldy objects. There’s something about staff doing manual labour that makes customers treat them like pack animals.
I wonder if it is related to the behaviour in the store car park.
(a) Some drivers get really annoyed that there are pedestrians walking around the car park.
(b) Some pedestrians get really annoyed there are cars driving around the car park.
I have always wondered if they are the same people? That they are so self-centred or stupid that they cannot grasp the idea of other people doing something different from what they are doing at that moment?
You poke me on the shoulder or back without me knowing who you are or what you are up to and you’ll find yourself being grabbed, flipped over my shoulder and slammed to the ground by a 185 lb. man.
“Poke me again and you’ll pull back a stump. You should be old enough to get that reference, Grandpa.”
That’s the worst part of retail. Customers touching employees without their permission. To the customers, the employees are not humans.
