After many many years in the trenches (still in them too), I tell people that the best method of dealing with it is to leave your baggage at the door when you come in and your retail baggage when you go out. Take very little personally.as most attacks are general, they would have blown up the same way no matter who helped them. And remember most of this is corporate’s fault as they train customers that they can get away with this kinda thing.
Believe you me, the looks I’ve had when a customer yells at me just as I was going on lunch break, (meaning I’m no longer representing the store beyond I work their in a general sense) are priceless as they realize they are no longer protected.
Wow! You really do have to have a tough hide to work in retail (and many other places). If you have low self esteem this job could really destroy you.
