I know it’s just a comic strip and just a joke, but that’s not how it works. With the door open, the fridge would be unable to cool anything.
Anything that cools an area down, like a refrigerator or an air conditioning unit, can only do so if it has somewhere to move the heat. This is why air conditioning systems need a vent or other means of access to the outside, so that there’s somewhere for the heat to go. It’s why refrigerators blow warm air out from their backs. If a refrigerator door stayed open, it would merely be taking heat from the room and blowing it out into the room again, accomplishing nothing.
True, but the goal isn’t to cool the room. It’s to cool something directly in front of the condenser. While it wouldn’t have any effect on the room overall (besides some heat from the electricals), it would still cool off Lunker’s head.
