Sack the entire staff of a store? Yeah,, that’ll do wonders for making plans each week. Plus, as much as it’s been made that Grumbel’s is in an at-will store and takes full advantage of that (and more), I’m pretty sure firing every single last employee because an ineffectual seminar over handling shoplifters is cause for a class action suit.
‘at-will state’? Sounds like a USA-only thing. Scuttles off to Google…
“An at-will state is one where employers can to adopt a policy that gives employer the right to terminate the employment relationship without cause or notice. This is allowed in all states but Montana. Many job applicants do not realize that their employment application or company policy establishes them as an at-will employee, which means that they may have their job terminated at any time without cause. Employers of at-will employees are also able to change benefits, hours, and wages of an employee without giving a notice or reason.”
Wow. And yet the TV programmes and movies coming out of the USA suggest they think unions are a bad idea.
Americans mostly think unions are a bad idea because they’ve been fed propaganda by their corporate masters that they’re nothing but a useless, corrupt anachronism. A small percentage of workers have actually had a bad experience with a shady union, such as being heavily pressured (aka threatened) to strike over a matter they don’t agree with or being forced to continue working with someone that’s a horrible person simply because it can be so difficult to get rid of them, but we just can’t admit that “not perfect” is still better than “almost non-existent”.
The problem is some unions take it as a personal affront to allow anyone to get fired. So you end up with a bunch of people who won’t work hard, or simply are not capable.
Go ahead and fire everyone, STU-MAN. Good luck getting enough replacement employees so you yourself don’t have to do literally everyone’s job in the store from open ’til close.

“at-will state”, not store… sorry.

I was in the teamsters for 2 and a half years and they never did anything for me.
