A bit hypocritical, don’t you think, Marla? You didn’t appreciate it when your mother tried to guilt trip you into having the big wedding she wanted and now you are low key doing it to Val. She may not be as bothered by it as you were but that still doesn’t make it ok.
I don’t think Marla meant she felt they should have had a “big” ceremony. But Val and Cooper were the only ones from work that Marla invited to her small, simple ceremony. And Val did express disappointment when she thought that she wasn’t going to see Marla in her dress.
A friend who is close enough to invite to your own wedding (as Marla did with Cooper and Val) expressing disappointment in not being able to see their friend in pretty wedding outfit (as Val did with Marla, before she was invited), *after* the fact, is not the same as a parent applying guilt pressure on a child to have a bigger ceremony than they want to have. Val is poking fun at Marla in return, again, because they are close enough friends to do so.
