Sounds more like she’s trying to dump her kid(s) off at a neighbor’s birthday party as surreptitiously as possible so she then can then sneak off and have a personal day. As creepy as that sounds, self-entitled parents will do that as it’s cheaper and less intrusive than getting a babysitter.
I prefer not to get clothes from people I barely know, or from extended family. My parents (mainly mom) would know my size and what I like, whereas people we barely interact with don’t.
