I’ve never had that problem (although I *thought* that happened to me once). I sick part of me has wanted to work in a place where that happens so I can bring my lunch to work in a giant, locked toolbox that takes up a bunch of space in the refrigerator. They’ll either fire me or do something about the food thief… either’s cool with me.
I had a co-worker who would regular take drinks and bites of snacks we kept in our storage room. I confronted him about it and he denied it. So one day I bought a small drink. Put in salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard and vinegar. The look on his face as he came out of the storage room was priceless.
People who steal their coworkers’ lunches are lowlife scum. It doesn’t matter if you put your name on it or not. It’s a despicable thing to do since that forces your coworker to go hungry. Once this happened when I made a great meal for my husband to take to work and it was stolen. The thief got not only the food but the plastic dish I had put it in and one of my forks and a knife. Also since he was diabetic he was forced to go out to find something to eat. A million curses on people who do this!
This happened to me just two weeks ago at my (non-retail) job. Brought in a creamy style Ghost Pepper sauce I like 2 months ago. Perfect for me to dip fries into. Went to use it a week and a half ago and GONE! Someone either stole it or tossed it. I’m thinking the latter. So I brought in a new bottle and put a note on it, to make sure it’s not tossed. And if it is I’m bringing in a 3rd bottle and putting a sign on the door of the fridge explaining the ethics concerning co-workers food items. I will be as concise and polite as I can be, but will most likely use a little profanity. tl;dr? Don’t mess with your co-workers food. Just don’t.
Seriously, Marisa, do you WANT to make her more mad?!
I’ve had that happen to me but it is wasn’t in retail. And the company that was making that foodstuff had folded so I couldn’t replace it.
That happened to me when I worked in a law office.
It’s always the people who make the most money who are the most comfortable ripping other people off.
Is that a drink or a yogurt cup?

My wife and I visited a store specializing in chile pepper based sauces. The manager told me the a major clientele is lunch theft victims.
