When I worked at the book store, whenever someone just said a genre, I played dumb and said something like “yes, that is a genre(or whatever category fit) that exists.” And if it came to that, I would stay silent until they elucidated what they wanted regarding said genre. I didn’t want to encourage customers’ bad behavior.
