I know what it like to be THIS tired before. When I worked at Sam’s Club, I had back to back closing-and-opening shifts which really screwed my sleep pattern, I was driving home one time, I was so tired that I dozed off while driving. I was out for maybe…a few seconds, only to wake up and saw I was about to rear-end a Dodge Ram truck, I slammed on my brake and was just inches from that truck. Truly a scary situation
Yeah, because of that close call, I was angry, I went back to work next day and told me to stop doing that and surprisingly enough, they actually did stop doing that about a week later.
Had this happen to me many years ago driving in the Colorado mountains between Frisco and Breckenridge. I had kids in the car with me too. Probably the scariest moment for me EVER.
My dad was a small-loads truck driver, used a pickup for work. He fell asleep at the wheel and woke up when his hood jammed under a semi trailer on the interstate. He lived a good 25 years after that, though.
Truck totaled, time lost, insurance jacked up.I don’t know how he felt, but it cost the family a lot for him to skip sleep trying to make better time.

Glad you avoided the accident!
Yeah, microsleeps are scary. More so if you’re driving on a freeway full of twists, turns, bridges and high spots with no guardrail or other barrier.
