I like the way Alan’s copying, er, emulating Marla’s method of saying the answer with a questioning intonation, a la Australian English! They didn’t actually lie; they just left itup to the person asking to accept that as an answer. 😀

This is actually an anecdote from Norm’s book. When a customer asked him this question, Norm had no idea either so he made up this same answer.
Just guessing but I think it refers to how well it grips the ground/floor (i.e. prevents slip and falls).
