Oh yeah, people will whine forever about how hard the former coal miners have it while doing everything in their power to avoid acknowledging the *actual* working class that’s around now.
Right? What is it about coal mining? You used to see the same sentiment in Europe. In Britian they still whine about the pit-closures. Conveniently forgetting that all those mines had been kept open through government subsidies. Basically, English tax payers had to pay so that a small number of people could dig up coal. As though that is some sort of God-given right.
Whinging about the plight of people who don’t (or barely) exist anymore or yet is easy. They never ask for anything; there are no consequences to failure; it makes you feel morally superior. If you advocate for people who exist they starting wanting things you have to make hard choices and nobody likes that.
Coal miners are still around and dismissing them is still dickish especially if you call yourselves people of the working class while telling them to learn code.
Especially sincee coding no longer pays what is used to thanks to since so many people who know how to code. We need more electricians and plumbers. They make 6 figure salaries and workik with their hands. Not everyone wants to sit behind a desk all day.
