the self-checkouts are getting smarter. The other day I had one accuse me of theft for putting my extra reusable shopping bags into the one bag I needed. well, maybe not smarter, but more like Big Brother. or Roz from “Monsters Inc.”. Always watching.
Self-serve checkouts are spreading like a virus over here right now. Stores that used to just have humans on the registers have suddenly switched to ENTIRELY self-checkouts. And even worse, HORRIBLY set up. Not accepting their rewards card until AFTER scanning ALL your items, beeping ridiculously loudly for all errors, and DEMANDING you put EVERY item on the bagging station, even if you only have one item and are going to carry it out with you. I still haven’t received any comments back from their complaint department from my scathing report.
These are a con game designed to reduce staffing claiming to be faster for shoppers. How is it faster when one employee has to constantly bounce between self-service registers to correct problems. A policeman was recently suspected of scanning half his items and stealing the other half.
If I were the self checkout attendant, I’d keep an eye on that lady! She could be stealing from any stores, never know.
This is when you call a manager or security and have them watch her. Or kick her out.
…if they’re so inclined.
