Sadly, Brice is right. Grumbels cannot compete with the big-box stores and shouldn’t try. If they’d focused on quality instead, like Delman, they might have survived.

Agreed. Becoming a “big box store” has sealed it fate and led to it demise.

I do most of my shopping at Target. Somehow, Target manages to have big box prices and yet decent quality. Grumbel’s was trying – and failing – to compete with that, instead of continuing what they’d established themselves as.

Wasn’t the bit about the Big Box stores brought up by the protagonists of this strip when corporate decided on the polo uniforms?

That doesn’t mean that the argument comes from the same place.

Marla’s argument was that Grumbel’s should focus on quality and service because those aspects lead to sales.

Brice’s argument is that Grumbel’s shouldn’t try to sell to poor people because those sales aren’t good enough. It’s an extension of his layaway argument.

Ok, I agree about the shirts. I liked the different colors they used to wear. And the shade of green they chose is a snore. But you’re wasting your time arguing with Cooper.

I’m glad Brice is complaining in some form. Journey of a thousand miles.
