    Unfortunately, if Cooper or Marla don’t empty that hamper the next day and someone buys it, the customer may be accused of left when the cashier opens the hamper up to check inside. Of course, if the cashier doesn’t do that, the customer makes off with a bunch of merchandise.

      Not quite the same thing, but when I was working at a grocery store I saw a teenage employee put a six pack of beer into a styrofoam cooler. I realized he was going to have a friend come in and buy the cooler in his line.
      Once he left I took the beer out. I hid and watched his friend come and couldn’t find it. Then the employee came and looked and was really befuddled.

        Had something similar, only a guest tried it. Saw a guest put stuff inside a hamper, and they were well-known for pulling this scam. So we took it and waited. Well they came back and opened it, then started looking around. Even asked if there was others in the store l, but it was

      I did catch a few people that may very well have been trying to steal stuff, but to avoid the implication that this assumption was my reason for checking, I would say, “I just want to make sure a member of the public didn’t decide this would make an excellent trash can and put some nasty garbage in here for you to discover later.”
