If you want to get technical, *all* holidays are fabricated as it takes a conscious decision to regularly observe the anniversary or remembrance of some such event or another.
When I did the cards for American Greetings we had to remove the Christmas display and put up Valentines day on December 26. Customers would wonder why I was putting them up so early, we had certain sections for holiday cards so you had to fill them with holiday cards. When you removed one holiday you put up the next no matter how far away it was.
This fact drove the woman who came up with the idea of Mother’s Day nuts.
Hmmm….
Actually, going insane due to Mother’s Day sounds appropriate.
