    I was happy when retailers started adding self-scan price checker stations.

    I was seriously ticked off when I found out they were attached to a separate database from the one the cash registers were. The pack of five pads of paper that was originally a very nice price (on my university budget) turned out to be far, *far* more expensive than I’d expected, but I was in a hurry, so had to pay it…

    There’s a story that a reporter asked Pope John XXIII how many people worked at the Vatican. The Pope thought for a minute, and answered: “About half.”
