I applied for head cashier at Lowes everytime it opened up. they kept hiring from outside, and every one of them would leave within 4 months.

At Kmart they wouldn’t give me a chance to apply for promotions. Just keep picking a woman.

Considering you sound too much like Jerry, I don’t think the gender was the problem

Reading through the archive and seeing your frequent misogynistic comments is a voyage into your headspace I didn’t ask for.

Sounds like they had a lot of women working there, in which case avoiding putting you in a position of power was the right call.

Maybe because you were such a d i c k, did you ever think of that? Now take your misogynistic comments and shove them up your… fill in the blank.

Dude, if you think so low of women AND you keep getting passed over, what does that say about you and how you rate in your own head? Kinda telling on yourself here.

I can’t believe that Josh speaks to his superior that way. Does he think that he and Marla are equals?

No, he thinks he’s superior to Marla because he follows the corporate guidelines more closely, and she had no business being promoted to store manager.

      Truth.

Playing devil’s advocate here, he’s not all that far off-base from how Marla would speak to Stuart. The difference here is that Marla was trying to make Stuart see the Kafka-ness of corporate’s (il)logic — or at least trying to find a work around it — because she wants a functional, merit-defined store while Josh is speaking up for it because he’s willingly a mindless drone.

It reminds me of when I worked at OfficeMax. I wanted to be able to do returns (level 2 cashier as opposed to level 1) and after 8 months of working as a cashier, it finally happened. But I witnessed at least 6 newer employees get promoted to Level 2 over me.

It seriously was one manager that made me quit. My first GM there was a Stuart clone but he left me well enough alone. But OfficeMax had cool managers otherwise, aside from the AM who ultimately made me quit.

I should also add that I trained several Level 2 cashiers to do the job in the interim. And they weren’t called Level 1 or 2, I just made that up for clarity.

Sounds like Josh was a manager at my last retail job. My one friend worked in my department, and he knew the department inside and out, and had done the work of the department manager on many occasions when the department manager was off. So when the actual department manager resigned, my friend would have been the logical choice for his replacement. Naturally, the manager brought in someone from a different department and gave him the position. When my friend found out, he gave his notice on the spot, and refused to help the new guy.

Tell him you don’t answer to him, he answers to you!

I’ve never wanted to snap a fictional character’s neck so hard(Josh, of course). It’s like a drug.
