When I was a cashier at a grocery store we could not say anything to people when we closed. We had 2 guys that always were staying late. Never came on the same day of course. One time one of them said “Oh your closed I thought you were open 24 hours.” We had told him multiple times we closed at 12.
It sounds as though it would be totally worth the risk of being fired by mentioning you’ve done this song and dance before, then ask if he’s selfish or just stupid.
I went to a Dollar General just before it was closing, I thought they closed at 10:00 PM but they closed at 8:00. I should’ve checked the hours but I made an assumption and you know what that means. Only these employees weren’t at all hesitant to tell me they were closing. I apologized and left though I thought they could’ve been more polite.
Growing up, we’d shop at Hills and my mother would ignore the closing announcements and keep shopping, and I was scared that we’d be locked in, especially when they began shutting lights off. Nobody ever came to move her along, but I would (even as young as like 8, because I feared being locked in).
I am confused about this policy. I’ve only ever experienced the contrary.

I hope at one point, you added a “… same as the last time we had to tell you” to the end of that sentence.

Thankfully in supermarkets where I’ve worked in, they are keen to get customers out after closing (at least one it’s 10 or more minutes after closing)
You hover around her like flies on a road-kill, pushing the credit card, rewards account & all the promotions.
Especially if your dinner was a gyros with extra onions & garlic sauce.
