I had a guy fall right next to the wet floor sign, screaming he’d broke his leg. I told him to get up and get out, he hadn’t slipped on anything because I hadn’t even started mopping yet, it was 80+ degrees outside, so the floor was still dry. He got up and ran out.
Years back I had a manager leave early so he could go out with his girlfriend before going home to his wife. He left me in charge of closing the store. A guy slipped in a wet spot from marking (cones were up). I filled out the incident report best I could figure. Manager got mad at me how I filled them out because I phrased it in a way that made the store liable. Tough.
Sadly, there really are people like this, and attorneys happy to represent them.
Win or lose the lawyers usually get paid.
