Some don’t hear it (depending on the sound quality of the speakers or possibly if they have hearing problems) others legitimately don’t care about the announcement and will do anything and everything to keep shopping as long as possible no matter what the employees do.
And some people here it, but figure the store isn’t *really* closed until they themselves leave. If The Center of the Universe is still shopping, how can the store be closed?
(When I worked at a supermarket we called putting the random stuff back “unshopping”. I wonder if that’s a common term?)
If we waited until after the store closed we’d be there long after our shifts ended. At my store we do them throughout the day bit by bit and then after we close we blitz what’s left before we leave.
I used to work in a library, so I find myself either taking things back to where they belong or just dropping them off at the service desk. It depends on factors… how pressed for time I am, whether I know where they go, etc.
If the store has been closed then how did she missed the closing announcement?

Sounds like my mother. They’d turn lights off, and she kept shopping as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

We called them “gobacks” and phrases were basically
“handling the gobacks”
“doing the gobacks”
“running the gobacks”
etc.
